Power Ball and Sanhedrin 24B

The Robot Rabbi has chastised the Shikker Dovid for coming out against powerball. The Robot Rabbi cited the practice of Reb Yisroel Salanter of buying lottery tickets.

The Shikker Dovid would like to point to a Mishna in Sanhedrin, page 24B. The mishna states that somone who is a dice player is not able to be a witness or a judge. The Talmud qualifies the mishna stating that somone whose livlihood is based upon dice is disqualified. That is exactly the reasoning of the shikker dovid. It is not natural to pursue a life through these means. It is against the nature of man. It corrupts the nature of man. The Shikker Dovid stands by his statement: Buy whiskey not powerball.

Glad to see robot quoting R’ Salanter instead of bringing up dubious rabbis he has mentioned in the past. Robot should take some of that whiskey and short circuit himself
