On page 8 of Pesahim there is a discussion as to where one must look for hametz. The test is whether somone would get up in the middle of a meal with bread in his hand and fetch more stuff. According to the Talmud if you must check the oil stash are but not the wine cellar.
Why? Whats the difference: Rashi gets it beautifully. He says, a host knows exactly how much oil for dipping in bread is needed for the meal and therefore one would not get up in the middle to get more. But with wine… wine you never know how much you are going to drink. You will have to get up in the middle of the meal, maybe carrying some bread. Since you really never know how much you drink, there is the chance of getting up.
The ShikkerDovid would like to weigh in. The old expression is don’t be stingy with the mustand. The Shikker Dovid says: Dont be stingy witht he wine. Get up and get more.
