Learning how to observe Shabbat from animals

On page 51 of tractate Shabbat we are taught that certain collars or rings may be placed on animals for them to wear on Shabbat. The critical measure is amount of restraint it puts on an animal. Even animals need to feel free, relaxed and unrestrained on Shabbat.

The lesson for people is to loosen our restraints on Shabbat. We must disengage our collars, ie our laptops, iPhones, iPads, cell phones. The Shabbat is a unique time to disengage the normal tether we feel. We can learn from the animals to throw off our human restaints .
